TOWN CENTRE GLIDING DISPLAYS
Mark Hawkins made the point in the January Glide Angle that
the work that was put into the Town Centre Gliding Displays during 2007 has
borne fruit, and now that we know that the effort was worthwhile there is
every reason to spread the net more widely this year. Mark has asked me to
coordinate the 2008 push, and I am happy to do that - but the salient word
is ‘coordinate’; I shall be looking for volunteers to organise a Saturday or
a Sunday, or both, in ‘their’ home towns. This will involve:
·
Liaison with the local authority/council
to find a suitable location and date, and to gain permission for the display
and ‘stand’.
·
Selection and confirmation of date (once
you have fixed your date, enter it into the Club calendar)
·
Gathering together a team to support the
event
·
Getting the glider (probably JAZ) to the
event, rigging, and manning the stand
·
De-rigging the glider at the end of the
day, and clearing the site
I have listed some possible locations in
the table below, and would now invite individuals or teams of individuals to
volunteer to organise an event. It would be helpful if names could come
forward during the next week or two, as I propose to hold a meeting of those
involved at the Park on Saturday 9 February at 6.00pm (before the Safety
Meeting). Hopefully at this meeting we shall be able to learn from the
experiences of those who ventured into the towns last year. The list is by
no means exhaustive – if you would like to organise an event in your own
home town or village, just let me know. Most importantly though, we must
maintain the momentum from last year – don’t wait for the tap on the
shoulder; book a date and get your name on the list – you will be doing a
service to our Club.
